Cited — Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 25, 2026
Cited ("the app", "we") measures how AI assistants represent your Shopify store and suggests improvements. This policy explains what we access, store, and share.
What we access
With your permission (Shopify read_products / write_products scopes), Cited reads:
- Store info — store name and domain.
- Product data — product titles, types, and collections (to generate the buyer questions we test).
We do not access or store your customers' personal information.
What we store
- Your shop's Shopify session/access token (to operate the app).
- The buyer prompts tracked for your store.
- Visibility run results — scores, which AI assistants mentioned your store, and the citations returned — keyed to your shop.
What we send to third parties
To measure AI visibility and generate fixes, Cited sends generic buyer questions and your public product context (e.g., "best yoga mat to buy online") to AI providers — OpenAI, Google (Gemini), and Perplexity. We never send your customers' personal information to any third party. Each provider processes this data under its own terms.
Data retention & deletion
- We retain your store's data only while the app is installed.
- On uninstall, Cited honors Shopify's
shop/redactwebhook and deletes all data we hold for your shop (sessions and stored visibility runs), typically within 48 hours. - We also honor the
customers/data_requestandcustomers/redactwebhooks; because we store no customer personal data, these are acknowledged with nothing to return or erase.
Your rights
You can uninstall the app at any time to stop all data collection and trigger deletion. For any data request, contact us.
