What changed in each build, newest first.

The Lot is in a private playtest, so this is the honest version of a patch-notes page: every build that has actually gone out to somebody, and what they would notice about it. If you are on an older one, the download page always serves the newest.

Why the numbers jump. Versions go up whenever the work does, which is more often than a build gets uploaded. A download therefore carries everything since the last one — 0.47.0 contains 0.45 and 0.46, 0.44.0 contains everything from 0.40 — so the notes below are grouped by what you could actually install, not by every number that ever existed.

0.50.0

  • A window, and something outside it. Room Zero has windows now, with space behind them — a lit planet, a moon for scale, a starfield, and hard sunlight that comes in through the glass and lands in a band across the floor.
  • Nothing follows you between worlds. Where you put an app is remembered per world. A pane you placed on the mountainside stays on the mountainside, Room Zero keeps its own arrangement, and visiting one no longer rearranges the other.
  • You find your Pal. It is not handed to you at the start any more. It watches from the edge of the room and comes over once you have been still long enough to notice it — and it will answer a few questions about itself when it does.
  • Sharper text, everywhere. Every label, sign and subtitle in the world was redrawn with a new text renderer. Small type stays crisp at a distance instead of going soft.
  • Speech types itself out, with a beat on full stops and commas, and a slow drift once the line has landed so a subtitle sitting there still feels alive.
  • The app menu is a screen, not an overlay. Rounded panel, a search field that waits for a click before it starts taking your keystrokes, and matching loose enough that typing cgpt finds ChatGPT.
  • The download is a little smaller, too: a dependency nothing used was removed, and took 6.4 MB and one licence obligation with it.

  • Signed. Both downloads now carry a code-signing certificate, so Windows no longer opens with "Windows protected your PC" and a button you have to go looking for.
  • Two shapes, and you pick. An installer that puts it in your own user folder with no admin prompt and keeps your settings across an upgrade, or a zip you unpack wherever you like.
  • The paperwork. A privacy policy, terms, and a third-party notices page, all linked from inside the game as well as from here — plus a notices file that travels inside the build.

  • The web panes behave like a browser. A real right-click menu, and the shortcuts you already know — Ctrl+T, Ctrl+W, Ctrl+Shift+T, Ctrl+R, Ctrl+L, Alt+arrows, Ctrl+Tab, Ctrl+1–9, F5.
  • Links that open where you can see them. A link that asks for a new window opens a tab now, instead of a floating panel that disappeared the moment you looked away.
  • Tab strips stopped growing. They were gaining a tab every session.
  • Cut-outs. Transparent PNGs, from a file or straight off the web, standing in the room as objects.
  • F2 hides the pane title bars when you want to look at the screen and not at its chrome.

  • The first outside playtest's fixes. F8 stands you up from any screen rather than only from a captured app. Esc while typing no longer opens the pause menu behind you. An app that is not installed on your machine is greyed out and says so, instead of looking clickable and doing nothing.
  • An effects volume group — one Effects slider over the top, with separate trims for footsteps and wind underneath it.
  • The virtual monitor is offered at first launch, not only once you have found a seat that needs one. It is still opt-in and still never installed without a yes.
  • Keys you can rebind, a campfire, standing, crouching and prone, footsteps, and sentence case across every string the game shows you.
